Some people can’t choose between two favorite colors and end up with cars like this :(

Imagine you were building a website and setting up products for the shop and wanted to show to your potential customers all the different color varieties you had to offer, but OH NO! You only have one photo with one color version. You have other colors of your product on hand, but your measly phone camera wasn’t going to provide the same quality as your professionally shot product image.

Well, worry not, because today I am going to show you how to easily change the colors of a product for use on your design or web projects for FREE using an online tool called Pixlr.

Link: https://pixlr.com/

After clicking the link above, you’ll see a couple of buttons on the homepage that allows you to select which version of Pixlr you want to use.

Pixlr versions you can choose from

The left option, Pixlr X, is a user-friendly version that gives you quick editing features like adding filters, text, cropping, as well as common templates for social media and print materials. (Check back often because I plan on adding more tips and tricks using Pixlr in the future 😉)

For changing the colors of a product we will be using the right option, Pixlr E. Don’t get scared off by the “Advanced” label I assure you what we’re about to do is very easy!

Click ‘open image’ and select the product photo that you want to change the color of. The image will then open on the editing screen, which may look familiar for those of you experienced with other photo editing software!

Towards the top of the editor window, you can click on ‘Adjustment’, then click on the ‘Hue & saturation’ option.

Look how easy it is to change colors!

With the ‘Hue and saturation’ menu open you can now use the ‘Hue’ slider to adjust the color of the product as shown in the video above. When you’re happy with the new color, click apply.

You can now go to ‘File > Save…’ and a menu will pop up with saving options.

The save menu popup

Here you can choose the quality of the image as well as the file type. The recommended settings will usually be exactly what you need. If you had an image with a transparent background to start, select PNG as the file type to preserve the transparency.

Once your selection is made, click Save As and you’ll be able to choose where to save the image on your computer.

There you have it, a brand new, color-changed product image at your disposal.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and see you next time!
